a few note-worthy events of this week:
- i finally broke down and bought an air conditioner from my place of employment, nothing huge, just a 5000BTU. we put it in last night, as this humidity has been killing us and my allergies have been awful. of course it is SO LOUD with this terrible high pitched whirring sound that grates on my nerves so much that i AM pushed to the edge of insanity. also, inside the box was a slip of paper with the effiency rating, and out of the possible scores, it had the LOWEST. i can not accept this! i am paying my hard earned money to stay cool, and i think that it is not too much to ask that my air conditioner be reasonably quiet AND energy efficient. i pay my electric bill, you know. so i am returning it, much to the chagrin of the management. this morning i was described as "one of
those customers." yeah whatever.
- i found out that i need surgery on my bunion. terrific. honestly when i made the appointment with the podiatrist, i was NOT expecting to hear this. i was hoping for some weird splint and maybe some uggo orthopedic shoes, but not surgery. it's an outpatient procedure, with a localized anesthetic, and i will be having a screw put in my toe. what?!? i don't fully understand the procedure or the recovery... it's going to be a long process for sure, with physical therapy and some stupid
moonbootsandal that i will have to wear for six weeks. right now i am trying to figure out the best time to schedule it. i have to call three to four weeks in advance. i will not do it in july, as i am not mentally prepared and also i have fun planned for august and i don't want to be gimpy on the cape. i was told by one of my bosses not to schedule it for the beginning of september, as that is our busy time, but excuse me if i don't want to schedule my life around this job anymore. i am not going to schedule it for then ANYWAYS, but not because of what i was told. if i were to go in then, i would still be healing when my birthday rolls around, and walking around the topsfield fair will suck. SO i think i will schedule it for just after, mid october. yay.
fun fact: my dad is having surgery on his bunion in november. THANKS FOR THE GENES POP.
- took the kits to a new vet yesterday and i can't help but wonder how much unnecessary money i've spent in the past three years taking them to angell. i was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience yesterday. neither of them have gained (or lost, oh well) any weight, and both were healthy. roo got some plaque scraped off teeth and they both got vaccines. in total the whole thing took less than an hour, from leaving the house to the actual appt to getting them home. i sang the cat song in the car and they were actually quiet on the ride home. good girls.
- i am reading A Child's Garden of Grass. i love it.
